Awards & Recognition

Disability Support CIC

Established in 2004 by individuals seeking advocacy support for issues like benefits and housing, Disability Support has been serving both Bradford and Calderdale. Initially operating from Keighley Voluntary Action, we expanded our reach over five years before relocating to Little Germany, Bradford, with funding from the Bradford Clinical Commissioning Group.

In response to increasing demand in Calderdale, we moved to Lee Mount, Ovenden, in 2014. Over the years, we’ve grown, securing contracts like the one with the MS Society for Calderdale in 2015, focusing on benefit-related assistance. As our services expanded, so did our geographical reach, prompting our move to Hebden Bridge in 2018 to better serve the Upper Valley.

Pre-pandemic, we held regular drop-in meetings across various locations, including Todmorden Health Centre and St. Mary’s Food Bank.

Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, our commitment to serving the community remained unwavering. In 2020, we assisted in recouping £1.2 million in payments for Calderdale residents.

Even amidst remote operations, our impact continues to grow, with plans for the Inspire project—a new employment and training initiative—in collaboration with Calderdale Council in 2021 and 2022. Today, as we enter the second year of the Inspire project, our dedication to empowering individuals remains stronger than ever.
